Shoreline Living – Homes that are Making a Splash

An attractive feature to living along the coast in Fairfield County is the ocean. Who wouldn’t want to have their home overlooking the water or have a quick walk to waterside activities? Vita Design Group has been busy this past year designing a handful of custom seaside homes for those clients interested in a lifestyle that consists of spectacular views, boating, fishing and kayaking.

The challenge of seaside architecture is abiding by numerous coastal regulations, including property elevation, all while trying to maximize water views from every room in the house. Depending on the location of the house, sometimes it is the top floors that enjoy the best views of the water. (we always strive to achieve this, by not obstructing your neighbors previous amazing view!)

The concepts of energy efficiency in both design and function of a home are important to the construction of every home. However, a seaside home’s design usually has more windows and doors connecting to the outdoors. VDG loves to create a seamless flow from inside out and tries to keep artificial light to a minimum. The natural light highlights the quality of space in a home and provides visual comfort while reducing energy consumption. The proper shading devices and also wall/ceiling insulation also play a key role in energy efficiency. One of our recently constructed beach homes features SIPs panels. These airtight panels use less energy to heat and cool, allowing for better control over indoor environmental conditions.

Furthermore, outdoor living and entertaining by the beach is instrumental in the future enjoyment of the homeowner. A patio, deck or courtyard could offer our clients the chance to dine al fresco each day and at the beach, one can catch a gorgeous sunrise or sunset. We are also integrating outdoor TVs, fireplaces and covered seating areas for our clients to take advantage of during fall and spring months. A well designed exterior space takes advantage of natural aspects such as trees, garden and ocean views, while complimenting the overall project.
